CAISSE ALLIANCE ANNOUNCES 2024 BURSARY RECIPIENTS

NORTH BAY  –  June 26, 2024: For a fifth consecutive year, Caisse Alliance announces $10,000 in bursaries as part of its Caisse Alliance Bursary Program. Student members of the financial cooperative had until March 31, 2024, to apply. A selection committee composed of three members of the Northern region and three members of the Nipissing region, had the mandate to select, in accordance with the eligibility criteria, two candidates who made a significant contribution or commitment to a sustainable development project in their communities.

Candidates were in for a surprise on June 14 and 18, when teams from their respective branches unexpectedly awarded them a $5,000 bursary.

Fighting Hunger for Positive Change

This year, one of the selection committee’s two choices was Emma Rivet, a graduate of École secondaire catholique Franco-Cité in the Nipissing region. The committee wanted to highlight the significant and ongoing impact of the candidate’s involvement with a group of young leaders. First for her unwavering dedication to serving people in precarious situations, and on the other for her tireless commitment to the “Une canne ça dépanne” initiative, where the bursary recipient supported community members living with food insecurity. According to Emma Rivet: “Helping others is one of the most beautiful things a human being can do. Everyone is important and everyone deserves to live happily.”  The recipient is counting on past experiences and the 4-year Bachelor of Arts program at the University of Ottawa she will be undertaking in September, to help her community.

Inspiring Future Generations to Showcase Their Talent

The committee also chose to acknowledge the efforts of Samuel Poitras, a graduate of École secondaire catholique Thériault, who is determined to help society evolve towards a future where arts are celebrated as an essential part of community life and are accessible to all ‒ thus contributing to reducing inequities, one of the sustainable development goals. “In Northern Ontario, access to the arts can often seem limited, but my determination to explore and participate in different art forms has helped create a community shockwave,” says the recipient. Samuel Poitras will be pursuing a 4-year B.A. in Classical Studies at Western University and hopes to inspire young people through his ongoing involvement.

The selection committee would like to thank all candidates and congratulate each of them on their achievements.
