COVID-19 – An additional donation of $23,550

North Bay, April 9, 2020 – In addition to the $50,000 donation to food banks announced last week, Caisse Alliance announces today that its regional cooperative committees, consisting of Caisse members, have decided to inject an additional $23,550 into their communities and extend a helping hand to organizations providing essential services during this public health crisis.

To help overcome social isolation, the Caisse has provided electronic tablets to elderly people, either hospitalized or living communally in nursing homes. “These people will be able to stay in touch with their families during this confinement period”, said Caisse Alliance North West Regional Manager, Pierre Richard.

In an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19, to protect front line staff and to ensure valuable services to those in need, the Caisse is also assisting a hospital, a women’s shelter, an organization for people with intellectual deficiencies and nursing homes by covering some of their additional expenses.

“We hope that these donations will help relieve some of the financial strain that local organizations are currently facing”, added Marcy Lemieux, Caisse Alliance Nipissing Central Regional Manager.

Among other donations, the Caisse assisted with the purchase of 5,000 N95 masks for a local hospital. “Caisse Alliance kicked-off our Emergency COVID-19 Fund. During these unprecedented times, we are in uncharted waters and truly appreciate navigating these waters with such caring community partners”, stated Cynthia Desormier, President & CEO of West Nipissing General Hospital. “On behalf of the hospital and our entire staff, thank you!”

To encourage elderly people to stay home, our financial cooperative has offered financial support to ensure that their purchases are delivered to their door. A contribution has also been made to help with food distribution to people and families in need.

“These donations allows us to contribute directly to the well-being of our communities in these difficult times”, mentioned Stéphane Méthot, Caisse Alliance West Nipissing Regional Manager.

The agricultural sector, a parish and organizations putting altruism into action during this pandemic, have also benefited from our community fund.

According to Caisse Alliance Nipissing East Regional Manager, Norm St-Amour, “in these difficult times, we strive to ensure that our organizations continue to assist the most vulnerable people and save lives”.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, it is essential that our community come together and help one another. After all, this is one of our cooperative values.
