This bustling community is one of the oldest settlements in Greenstone, having begun as a trading post for the North West Company prior to 1800. Longlac is situated on the shores of the Kenogami River and Long Lac which made it a prosperous trade route for furs and forestry. In 1948 Longlac became a regional forestry center and also the industrial hub of Greenstone.
In 1997 at the request of local people the Caisse populaire de Hearst opened a branch in Longlac. The Caisse offers a full array of financial services to the region of Greenstone.
